Jobs for America's Graduates provides start-up and on-going technical assistance to local and state affiliates to ensure the successful implementation and operation of a JAG affiliated statewide program. The basic package of technical assistance includes, but is not limited to, the following services:

PROGRAM LAUNCH AND ON-GOING SERVICES

  • Assistance in preparing a launch plan for implementing a JAG accredited program
  • Assistance in presenting the program to government, education, community-based organizations, foundations, potential funding sources and private sector employers and groups.
  • Guidance in establishing a state board of directors and a non-profit organization with IRS tax-exemption.
  • Assistance in preparing an operating budget
  • Assistance in identifying potential funding sources to support a statewide program
  • Guidance in the selection of staff members, including:
    • Management team (state director, program managers, and supervisors)
    • Administrative staff
    • Specialists
  • Implementation of JAG's National Data Management System to support tracking and reporting of participants served, services delivered, and outcomes achieved.
  • Assistance in the development of program planning documents, including:
    • Management Plan
    • Staff Development Plan
    • Employer Marketing and Job Development Plan
    • Annual Plan
    • Technology Plan
  • Assistance in launching and managing a successful Career Association, a student-led organization, critical to a JAG accredited program.

ON-GOING TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE

  • Telephone consultation on implementation and funding issues with the JAG National Headquarters (Alexandria, Virginia) and JAG National Center for Evidence-based Practices Office (Flower Mound, Texas).
  • On-site program reviews to ensure that local programs and the statewide organization comply with standards as set forth in the JAG Model and Program Applications.
  • Assistance in conducting the statewide CAREER DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE.
  • Consultation on preparing for on-site program reviews (and mid-year reviews for new states).
  • Preparation of an accreditation report that outlines strengths, areas of improvements, major and minor areas of non-compliance, and recommendations.
  • Assistance in implementing the recommendations of the site review team.
  • Assistance in developing summer work-based learning experiences for program participants.
  • Consultation in launching follow-up services.

TRAINING SERVICES

  • On-site training for manager on implementation of an accredited JAG Program.
  • On-site training of new specialists in implementing one or more of the JAG Model Program Applications.
  • JAG's Annual NATIONAL TRAINING SEMINAR - includes dynamic and informational general sessions, best practices workshops and networking opportunities for staff directors, management teams, Specialists, NDMS coordinators, curriculum coordinators, Career Association coordinators, etc.
  • JAG's Annual MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE designed for new and experienced managers. Designed to improve understanding of the JAG Model as well as develop and refine leadership, coaching and management skills.
  • JAG's LEADERSHIP ACADEMY to increase the pool of qualified staff for state or local management positions.
  • Refresher training for those who implement the JAG Model using one or more of the Program Applications.
  • Advanced training for those who wish to move beyond the "what" (of the JAG Model) and understand "why" the model works.
  • Participation in JAG's NATIONAL STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE, an intensive 4-day leadership conference for local members.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

  • Access to JAG's MODEL BOOKS in electronic or hard copy format:
    • OPERATIONS HANDBOOK per Program Applications - Senior, Dropout Prevention, and Dropout Recovery
    • NATIONAL CURRICULUM (81 competency-based modules comprise the curriculum)
    • NATIONAL DATA MANAGEMENT SYSTEM HANDBOOK
    • NATIONAL CAREER ASSOCIATION HANDBOOK SERIES
  • Access to JAG's marketing materials (i.e. fact sheets, videos, press releases, etc.).
  • JAG ANNUAL REPORT and JAG CROSSROADS Newsletters.
  • Participation in JAG's "Train-the-Trainers" workshops to prepare state trainers.
  • Participation in JAG certification workshops for key staff positions.

DATA MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

  • Access to JAG's NATIONAL DATA MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (NDMS) and training.
  • Ability to track program participant data, including:
    • Student Profiles
    • Graduation rates
    • Full-time and part-time employment rates
    • Enrollment in postsecondary education and advanced training
    • Military placements
    • Non-seniors returning to school
    • Placement and Follow-up Record
    • Placement Report
  • Preparation of national, state, site and school summary reports based upon NDMS documentation.
  • Conduct DESTINATION VERIFICATION SURVEYS using NDMS documentation. Random sampling is used to pull a sample of participants to determine the validity of the data exported to the JAG National Database.

NATIONAL LEADERSHIP

  • Participation in the MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP for the Council of State Affiliates. Designed to provide states the opportunity to review issues that are relevant to the continuation and growth of the JAG National Network (i.e. federal and state legislation, policy and procedures, social trends, workforce trends, etc.) Revisions in the JAG Model are considered and approved by the Council of State Affiliates.
  • Assistance in securing funding to expand the program to serve more participants or other categories of at-risk youth. The JAG Model can be adapted for use in serving at-risk youth in the following categories:
    • Senior School-to-Work (Grade 12 plus 12 months of follow-up services)
    • Dropout Prevention (Grades 9 to 12 plus 12 months of follow-up services)
    • Dropout Recovery (Ages 16 to 21 plus 12 months of follow-up services)
  • Access to JAG's Board of Directors and senior staff to support efforts to secure funding and state support for successful implementation of the statewide program.
  • Access to "work-based learning" opportunities with national employers.
  • Participation in annual "JAG NATIONAL LEADERSHIP AWARDS EVENT", a national visibility event attended by prominent corporate and government leaders, JAG national and state board members, staff, and youth from around country.
  • Participation in the annual "NATIONAL STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE" (NSLC). The NSLC is held immediately following the JAG Leadership Awards Luncheon and provides opportunities for students and graduates to participate in leadership development workshops, competitive events, and Washington, D.C. based meetings and tours.
